Model 88 winchester .308 value1/23/2024 ![]() My own exsperience is that the trigger pull of the 88 is horrible, but acceptable, for a short-range, "killing" rifle. Yes, it is a bit too heavy and no, it will never be bench-rest accurate.but it will perform in the field and looks good to boot. With that said, I'd never pass up the chance to get a clean 88.and I haven't, own three now. Love the lines of the '88.smooth, modern, sexy.but the Savage 99 is my first love. He later married a plain jane woman and is still really happy.īeauty is just skin deep performance and smoothness will last a long time! He loved her, spent lots of money to keep her happy and she eventually left him. This situation reminds me of a friend who married a stunningly beautiful woman. I finally sold the Model 88 and have a new love affair. She may have been old, but she performed. I had a chance to buy a Savage 99 one day while under the influence and boy, did she change my opinion. No mater how much attention I lavished on her, no matter how much money I spent on her, she just wouldn't shoot! The Savage 99, on the other hand, seemed to be a plain jane that did not hold a candle to the beautiful Model 88 she was OK for what God intended her to be, but not good enough to take in public! I fell in love with the Model 88 when it came out in the 1950's - the sleek lines and racy appearance really set my heart on fire, just like a beautiful movie star. ![]()
